Real Estate and Neighbourhood:
The boundaries of this well established neighbourhood are Bathurst St. running north south to the west, Avenue Road to the East. Housing stock is mostly Edwardian and Victorian detached homes and mansions built in the late 1800's and early 1900's in a Romanesque style. Although the neighbourhood has gone through it's economic cycle, today it is an area where there is great affluence. With a population of around 15,000, the average income bracket is 60,000 plus.

It is a neighbourhood with charm and character. Tree lined streets, residential by and large, it is also a popular home destination for the students attending the neighbouring grounds of the University of Toronto. The Annex is a area which is known for its unique architecture due to the elite demographic that used to live there around the turn of the Century. It was an architect named E.J. Lennox who designed a specific house at 37 Madison in the Annex in the late 1880's which  ultimitely defined the "Annex Style" architecture. It was duplicated over and over for decades. It combined Romanesque and Queen Anne style architecture.

Parks and Recreation:
Here are a few of the listed playgrounds and parks in The Annex area:
Huron St. Playground,
St. Alban's Park.

For a host of children's, youth's and senior's activities, fitness and aquatics, educational programs:  Jewish Community Centre, (JCC), at the south west corner of Spadina and Bloor.

Running north south along Bathurst is the 511 Streetcar.
East west along Bloor is the Bloor - Danforth Subway line.
North south along Spadina is the 510 Streetcar which goes all the way around to Union Station. The 510 King turns onto King St. and loops around to go north again.

Shopping and Restaurants:

The main commercial area for the Annex is on Bloor from Bathurst to Spadina. Lined with hype stores and restaurants there is something for everyone. One of my favourites is Sushi on Bloor.   There's always some great music going on at the Tranzac!

I use this great website to determine what's in an area. You can select which amenities you are interested in and it will give you a visual reperesentation and it will score the area based on how many amendities are available to you as a pedestrian. In this case the Annex gets a score of 97.

Price Ranges for Homes in the Annex Neighbourhood:

DETACHED $850,000 - $1,700,000
SEMI DETACHED $700,000 - $1,000,000
CONDOMINIUMS $400,000 - $1,500,000
